Transportation scams reported on transportation load boards and with transportation brokers.

Please be aware that we have received numerous reports of thefts across the US by transporters intercepting information from load boards or even going rogue (stealing units) after accepting jobs and securing units from an auction house.

Transporters reportedly obtain the information needed to secure the units from the dealer engaging with the transporter directly, from public load boards, or by other means. Once the transporter has the information needed, they show up to the auction and secure the units on behalf of the dealer but never deliver the units. We just became aware of three instances at NPA alone. At least one involved a transporter that the dealer in fact contracted, but the transporter never delivered the units to the dealer, and they have yet to be located.

We suggest using only KNOWN transporters, and NOT utilizing a load board which is the one common factor in all reported thefts so far. NPA has implemented new protocols to help protect you from possible theft, including requiring verbal confirmation of the transporter authorized to secure a unit on your behalf if we do not know them. While these protocols may help deter theft, we strongly recommend against using load boards and or brokers to transport your vehicles. Thieves appear to be using load boards and brokers to obtain sensitive unit information, invoices, and dealer information to try and secure units from auctions. If you choose to continue using load boards or hiring unknown transporters, we recommend that you DO NOT RELEASE SENSITIVE DOCUMENTS or information until after you have vetted and contracted a transporter.
